English to Turkish translations [PRO] Art/Literary - History / The Bible | | English term or phrase: anointing | Greetings,
I have had real difficulty finding a Turkish equivalent for ‘anointing’. The closest I can get is ‘meshedilmişlik’, but is that right? Even if it isn’t actually a mistake, perhaps I can do better?
The word “Messiah” means “anointed” i.e. “God’s anointed”. The Turkish word “Mesih” (as in ‘İsa Mesih’) comes from the same Semitic root.
Of course, man anoints with oil, but God anoints with His Holy Spirit.
In the Old Testament too we read about anointed people or people with God’s anointing.
In one case a king (Saul) angers God and loses God’s anointing, which then passes to David (Davut).

All the best, and many thanks,
