English to Urdu translations [PRO] Construction / Civil Engineering
English term or phrase:Elevation
Now a days elevation of any building is important factor for marketing.Wordly translation of elevation is Oonchai or bulandi but it has nothing to do with real perception of this term.
Explanation: From what I understand, in the given context, an “elevation” is a 2-dimensional projection of a 3-dimensional object, such as a building. It shows the different 2D side views of the building perpendicular to the ground plane. In other words, an “elevation” is a 2-D scaled drawing of a buiding, perpendicular to ground.
It seems to me that the word “elevation” is used since the drawing/draft shows the height/elevation of each building component relative to ground.
In Urdu:
کسی عمارت کا دو ابعادی خاکہ جو سطحہء زمین سے عمودی مسطوی کا زاویہ دکھائے، اور اس زاویے سے، عمارت کے تمام نظر آنے والے عناصر کو تناسب سے دکھائے۔ یعنی عمارت کو کھڑی ہوئی شکل میں، مختلف زاویوں سے دو ابعادی مسطوی پر دکھانا۔
2 Dimensional = دو ابعادی
Plane = مسطوی
perpendicular = عمودی
The following are some options:
دو ابعادی خاکہ
دو ابعادی تناسبی خاکہ / تناسبی خاکہ
زمین سے عمودی خاکہ / زمین سے عمودی دو ابعادی خاکہ
تناسبی عمودی خاکہ
زمین سے عمودی دو عبادی خاکہ
I would suggest that a simple word or word combination be used, that is explained fully in brackets for the first time it is used, along with the English word.)
There is link to a sample drawing of an elevation on this wikipedia page.

Another term that comes to mind:
عمودی تناسب, that is, "perpendicular scale" of the building, Since an "elevation" shows the relative scale of the visible components of the building, perpendicular to ground.
If you can't access the proper wikipedia page with the link above please see if the ending bracket of the word "(view)" is present in the address bar. I had to add the last bracket myself when I clicked this link.
According to wikipedia:
"An elevation is an orthographic projection of a 3-dimensional object from the position of a horizontal plane beside an object. In other words, an elevation is a side-view as viewed from the front, back, left or right.
An elevation is a common method of depicting the external configuration and detailing of a 3-dimensional object in two dimensions. Building façades are shown as elevations in architectural drawings and technical drawings."
This is not my field of expertise, but the wikipedia definition makes sense.
But, for advertising purposes, the front face is probably used the most.
