English to Vietnamese translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / banking workshop | | English term or phrase: "checking account" | As in: "What can you do with a checking account?"
I have heard Vietnamese people use "ngân phiếu" or "séc" when they talk about "check/checking". If the document is for Vietnamese living in the US, which one is more appropriate do you think? Cám ơn. |

Some time ago, I did a translation job which is about "checking account". I translated it simply as "tài khoản dùng séc" and the editor who lives in America said that Vietnamese people in America say "trương mục vãng lai". Why "vãng lai"? Because checking accounts are meant neither for the purpose of earning interest nor for the purpose of savings, but for convenience of the business or personal client; hence they tend not to bear interest. Instead, a customer can deposit or withdraw any amount of money any number of times, subject to availability of funds. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checking_account#Checking_accou... You can google "trương mục vãng lai" and find out more.
