Chao {Chow) literally means "Hello", but it is not used by itself, it is followed by a personal pronoun.

Ong = man quite older than speaker
Ba = woman quite older than speaker
Anh = man slightly older than speaker
Chi = woman slightly older than speaker
Co = young woman
Em = man/woman younger than speaker
Con = a child

There are many more, but these are the main ones we use.
