Finnish term or phrase: suomatu
Ok, I've been reading through some finnish poetry and found this one interesting:
the line says " vainukoirat herkkäkuonoiset tuuli jäsennissään suomatu kiitävät tänne päin". As it seems, "suomatu" must be a participle, but I never found a verb it corresponds to. The question is: can the word somehow be related to the meaning "marsh, swamp" or anything of the kind?
And what the translation should be than?

Explanation:
The word "suomatu" is not a Finnish word and makes no sense in the sentence. Although I'm a Finnish native, I cannot find any similar word that would fit in its place. If you just leave the word out, the sentence will be complete and makes sense: Bloodhounds with sensitive noses, wind in their limbs *suomatu* are dashing this way. As you see, no word will fit in place of *suomatu*. Just forget it.

Thank you for understanding,- you see, I've had a suspicion the word was derived occasionaly for some reasons of the author-
and that presented a problem. If I'm not mistaken, the line belongs to Pentti Holappa's "Syksy"-a piece of verse from the first part
of the XX cent. However, "suomatu" isn't registered in any dictionary, but perhaps some connection can be traced to the word "suoma".
