agree  Jean-Christophe Vieillard: "bénévole" n'est pas très bien choisi. L'indic se veut du bien mais, en général, c'est un individu qui a quelque chose à se reprocher.

  -> c'est vrai que ce n'est pas forcément bénévole, la phrase est de Wikipedia, pas de moi. Je dirais que l'indic cherche surtout à obtenir un profit pour lui-même en aidant la police.

"Indicateur" est toujours utilisé mais a de nombreux synonymes. Je crois qu'il existe un terme "officiel" ou officieux, peut-être "informateur".

Attention, tous les synonymes de la liste n'ont pas le même sens : le "manomètre", par exemple, n'est sans doute pas une personne mais un appareil. Le "mouchard" peut être un appareil (chronotachygraphe) et un individu. Certains termes sont utilisés par le milieu ("doulos", je pense), d'autres par la police.
