Context: het betreft een vertaling van historische monumenten (vnl. XVIde eeuw). De term wordt gevolgd door een naam (bijvoorbeeld: Bastion de Montmorency).

De betekenis is natuurlijk 'makkelijk' te achterhalen, maar bastion kan vertaald worden als: bastion, fort, vesting, bolwerk...
Overigens, ik twijfel eraan of de betekenis in het Frans van 'bastion' wel gelijk is aan die in het Nederlands. In het NL betreft het een "gedeelte van een vestingwal". Kan iemand mij de juiste term aangegeven?

Zelf ben ik geneigd om voor 'fort' of 'bastion' te kiezen, maar deze keuze hangt vnl. af van de ware betekenis van 'bastion'.

Bastion: Vijfhoekige uitbouw in een vestingwal. Speciaal ontworpen ter bestrijding van een \'dode hoek\'.

Als je de vesting van Saint Martin de Ré bekijkt, heb je verschillende bastions. De Franse brochure heeft het hier over \'bastion\', de Nederlandstalige heeft het ook over bastion.
