This is an entry in the "assets" section of the balance sheet, I have a feeling it refers to payments already received from clients in advance of their order.

Does anyone know of a standard translation for this sort of entry? Many thanks in advance.

I am not convinced that "Downpayments" is a strictly accounting term - not wrong through, just doesn't ring true to me. The above is used in balance sheets. Your call.

disagree  rkillings: SAP systems have a code for "vendor down payments" (V1B), so that is authority of a sort. Not all advances are down payments (acomptes).
