I can't use "flush". Is there a wet equivalent of the "bottom falling out " "siphoning away" or .....

Rather the reverse of "wet" but it seems to convey the same meaning as presumably it was once wet...need I elaborate?

Explanation:
If you want to keep the "chasse d'eau" allusion, maybe turn it round to say "at a time when asset values are 'going down the pan' there may be ..."
