French to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Accounting
French term or phrase: contrôle des commissaires aux comptes
(or "... du commissaire aux comptes").

Surprised not to find this as a whole expression in any online source of info... my question is, given that "contrôle" is best translated by "audit", what's the best expression in English to use? Presumably not "Auditors' audit". So "Auditors' control"? "Auditors' check"? Or maybe just "Audit"?

English translation:Statutory Auditors' review (report)
Explanation:
You often find it translated this way...; the report bit is optional, and I would leave it out...but it avoids "Statutory Auditors' audit"

Auditor's Inspection of the accounts

Explanation:
In Spanish the idea is to "intervene" in the accounts, but I think that "inspect" is correct.

neutral  philgoddard: (a) It's important to say "statutory", and (b) it's auditors in the plural.

  -> it's true; it should be: "auditors' ... "

agree  rkillings: Acceptable. "external" will do just as well as "statutory" (very culture-bound); usually appears with NO qualifier in the US.

agree  philgoddard: "Audit by the statutory auditors" would also be acceptable repetition.

  -> Thank you, I agree; I just thought it was getting a bit "audit" heavy

agree  rkillings: 'review' better than 'report' (which is the document, the write-up of the findings and opinion). Nothing wrong with 'audit' either: writer could have put "contrôle du contrôleur légal" (the Eurospeak French variant). :-)
