Because you can't meaningfully say "accounting accounts" for comptes comptables, you need to call them something else if you want to translate the distinction. What those comptes comptables are are the "official" accounts for purposes of financial reporting (to government and to the public). Comptes de gestion are for internal management(UK)/cost(US) accounting purposes. |
