Explanation:
"Statutory auditor" is the translation we used at the accounting/consulting firm I used to work at in Paris.

Here's the explanation for "expert comptable" from Saxcé financial dictionary: "No real equivalent in English. Outside or independent accountant. Often translated as "certified public accountant," ("chartered accountant" in the UK) although this latter more properly corresponds to "commissaire aux comptes" (though, as I said, we translated the latter as "statutory auditor")." French "experts comptables" have a monopoly protected by law for the exercise of the accounting profession in France.
