this doesn't have to do with news as such. I think "wire services" is still used in connection with web-based news sources (hey, there's another one!). i'm not aware of any term that refers back to the technology like "emetteur" except for webcaster/webcasting, but that doesn't have any direct reference to news. I guess "broadcasting" didn't really refer to news, either, except in the beginning when that was the most important thing being broadcast (like on radio).

IIRC the real equivalent for émetteur (or one, anyway) is "transmitter", and then what is transmitted is an "émission" (programme).
