Another art question!
This is the full sentence:
À l’opposé des images anatomiques et identitaires qui nous entourent, l’artiste préfère rendre sensible le corps dans son devenir charnel et poétique, ouvert à toutes les transformations.
I just can't think of a way of translating "identitaires" (and in fact "charnel")
Help appreciated.

I understand an image which defines identity (racial, national, professional....). As for 'charnel', the only very prosaic word which comes to mind is 'physical'

Asker: Thanks for the suggestion relating to "carnal". This is the term I used in the end. I wanted to award you some points but I don't know how to do it!

this is not a fab translation I would be the first to admit, but it conveys what I think the critic is driving at, images concerned with image. Charnel could be fleshy or fleshly.

Asker: Many thanks for your suggestion. In the end, because this is a prestigious exhibition, I chose "representational" but, in other contexts, I can see that "look-based" could be used.
