Don't call me crazy yet, please. Hear me out:
This is how I would translate the term(s) to point out the uniqueness of Montreal's geographical/territorial position...
To me, the word "identity" is the key word in the whole sentence here. I think it implies those very distinctive, specific, unique charachteristics of the place where Montereal is positioned geographically that make Montreal be recognized and singled out among other towns/ places around. They make it luminous, no...? After all this is publicity and advertising is sometimes too far-fetched.
Well, at least this how I see it, anyway. I am putting my level of confidence to medium (although I feel very confident about what I just said,) only because I don't know how you see this sentence in corrolation with the rest of the context. You may need to adjust words around.... or not. Good luck!
