Marketing - Advertising / Public Relations / org chart
French term or phrase: forme et façon
There is no real context for this, it is presented as a department or function in advertising agency's org. along with Finance, Web, but seems to be independent of the rest - i.e., no direct reporting structure... anyone have a clue before I ask the client?

Thanks!

form and manner

Explanation:
Hello,

I think "forme" is just "form."

façon = manner

form and manner (many ghits for this)

form = how it is presented
manner = how it is done/executed

I hope this helps.

neutral  Conor McAuley: In French politics (and we've just had the dubious pleasure of 12 months of French politics) you hear the expression "le fond et la forme" all the time, and, for me at least, it is a jeu de mots / please see my last note

The usual expression is "le fond et la forme" which is "substance and style".

façon = way, but may also to the making, or production of sthg, probably adverts, the practical side thereof, as opposed to the ideas people, the style.

Why not: Style and Showing?

Perhaps even leave the original and gloss in English.

Can we now agree that "le fond et la forme" is something of a stock expression?

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Connor - sounds like you're describing the creative dept. And that would make sense as it often functions independently. You've given me something to go on here - thanks for your brainstorming!

neutral  MatthewLaSon: Your suggestions just don't work for me. There's nothing creative about "forme et façon." It is what is is.

-> It's a subversion of a stock phrase, as if we said "it's raining cats and giraffes". Allegedly means the person who made it up is unbelievably witty à la Oscar Wilde and supremely intelligent.
