I am not sure what they are trying to say here... It is the whole sentence that is bothering me to be honest.

Many thanks for any suggestions!

is not about using an adveritsing blitz approach where the same message is repeated again and again
Explanation:
Or something along these lines.

I think investir has the sense of "invading"/"taking over"/"infilfrating" here. As I understand it it is about a more bespoke and targeted approach rather than using the same means to say the same thing over and over again.

Hope the explanation isn't as opaque as the text!

Nevertheless, they didn't do it by invading the media with large advertising formats, nor with widely repeated ones.

there is no need to flood media with adverts by *playing on repetition* (not too sure of the formulation of this last bit)

maybe: by using repetition is better

saturate the medium with a myriad of ad sizes...

Explanation:
...and high repetition

The idea is that any classic advertiser would take control of this new medium (ie online advertising) with a broad brush saturation approach, whereas in actual fact the marketing tactics are much smarter, with tailored messages and careful targeting.

not to bombard (support) this media with a lot of diverse forms of advertising

Explanation:
Hello,

à grands coups de formats publicitaires = with a lot of different forms of advertising

investir = to invest into

I hope this helps.

invade all the space with large repetitive ads

Explanation:
My take on it.

I don't think it really means different sizes, I think it means large formats -even though it should technically say 'coups de grands formats' to mean that.

inundate the media with a non-stop barrage of advertising

Explanation:
I think "barrage" can convey the idea of a this incessant on-slaught of advertising of all formats - I feel that the actual size of ads doesn't necessarily have to be underlined, particularly as the next sentence explains in any case that what they are aiming for is quality, well-targeted advertising. Actually, I think that "media" here is referring to the Net.
