This appears in a "profil pyramide des consommateurs XX1iéme siécle"
Militants, Engagés, Responsables, Eduqués, Sensibilisés, Mobilisables, Influençables, Manipulables.
Engagé is also used in relation to consumer associations (consommation engagée)
I am hesitating between ethical and proactive neither seems quite right. Most grateful for any ideas.
