French term or phrase:Esthétique intégrée
Hello,
This is getting me stumped... Esthétique intégrée
For context, this is for an installation that is "esthétiquement intégré dans son environnement" meaning it is "fondu dans son environnement". But the translations I am coming up with seem so French... Imagine a building that integrates its environment so well that you barely notice it's there in the first place...
Here are my thoughts:
Integrated aesthetics
Built-in aesthetics
Do you think I could change the word "integrated" and go for "inherent" or "natural" or something else?

No problem with the term you posted, but rather with the disconnect between the noun that you posted ("esthétique intégrée") and the verbal context that you provided ("esthétiquement intégré dans son environnement"). Plus, we only just learned that the context you provided was not taken from your source document.
Usually, an extract of the source text is provided in the Explanation/Context, to show how the term is used. Since it is generally taken from the source document, it is generally used as the "authority" for providing actual context for any translation.
Sometimes, the term or phrase that is posted is not identical to what is posted in the Explanation/Context; for instance, the context may contain a conjugated verb, and an infinitive may be posted as the Term/phrase (perhaps in anticipation of subsequent glossary entry). But using two different forms of speech confuses the issue.
People on this forum are trying to help, but that is hard to do without the proper information. In the future, please provide the proper context – using the same part of speech as the posted term or phrase. Better yet, give us the context as it appears in your source document.
"Esthétique intégrée" is what my client gave me, with no other context than me knowing my client very well. So I added a little context for Proz members because they don't know my client... I understand you are not at ease with the French "Esthétique intégrée" but then we'll have to get into a much larger discussion about telling our clients when we think their source language is bad... (which I must say, I do, but this client has told me many times that it's their publicist that decides on this sort of thing.. and he never budges)... Anyway, glossaries are so hard that way, and gallagy is right. I always look at a discussion before blindly accepting a term.
What do you suggest Phil? Asker wanted noun phrase for this bullet point, so have used combination of my own and other answers here. Anyway, I read the whole entry any time I look up Glossary and imagine most people do the same.
It's an installation that can be used both in the mountains and in the city... Chairlifts for skiing and Aerial tramways in the city. (I posted a note to Gilla Evans about it).
So, here are the possible winners:
seamless aesthetics ; environmental harmony ; aesthetic integration (or aesthetically integrated) ; seamless integration ; harmonious integration. Can I get your help on these?
What's wrong with "aesthetically integrated"? Also, the question should read "esthétiquement (not esthétique) intégrée".

Asker: I really like the idea of "seamless" and I googled "seamless integration" which seems to be used in the IT sector only... But I found this definition : seamless integration
An addition of a new application, routine or device that works smoothly with the existing system. It implies that the new feature or program can be installed and used without problems. Contrast with "transparent," which implies that there is no discernible change after installation....
I think that it could work in my context. What do you think?
Asker: More info to back the "seamless integration" idea: the "installation" we are talking about is a type of urban public transportation (aerial ropeways to be exact). So the idea is that the aerial ropeway can be integrated into an existing public transport system (ie bus, metro networks) harmoniously and aesthetically as well as integrate a natural mountain area...

Asker: It would work in a sentence, but I have to find an expression that will be two or three words. It's going to be part of a list of words that explain why this "installation" is better than other installations. Surrounding the "Esthétique intégrée" will be "Energy efficiency" and "Cost-effectiveness"... so I need key words that say what you said, but shorter!! :)
