as such "tonoïde"is merely a synonym for "formes tonneaux".
The "oïde" suffix (in English "oid") is generally used to denote something that resembles something, like "ovoid" for egg-shaped, "android"for a man-shaped robot etc.
Is it really necessary to repeat basically the same word?

Is it possible tis could be either a typo or a scanno? I see that at least 2 of the occurrences on Googlebooks are just that, in both instances OCr'ed from 'conoïde'; alternatively, it could be a scanno (or conventional typo) for 'toroïde' (a commoner word in the first place!)
