French term or phrase: hydromorphie
"XXX diminue l'hydromorphie et favorise l'aération du sol"

I have found 'hydromorphy' as a translation, but it just doesn't sound English to me.
I'm not even sure what it means in a practical sense, beyond a literal translation of the root words...

hydromorphism
Explanation:
While "hydromorphic" is indeed used in both botanical and geological contexts, "hydromorphy" is used exclusively for plants. meaning peculiarities in the structure of submerged parts of water and swamp plants. The corresponding noun in geology is "hydromorphism".

Oh, and here's a definition of "hydromorphic soil". Incidentally, it's from a certain country where both English and French are spoken...;-)

Thank you Cetacea. This fits my context very well - I could have gone with hydromorphic and added a word or so, but this is probably best.
The text also mentions gleys, and it is really about soils, not plants.

Explanation:
an educated guess from (like you!) the Latin meanings. Can't
I would give it a higher rating, but that might be rather arrogant!

Hydromorphy seems to exist. Fluctuations in saturation of the soil appear to have an impact on iron and manganese compounds in the soil! This is clearly the technical term...
