French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Agriculture / CAP - farming/aid/contracts | | French term or phrase: contrat type départemental | Is this confusing in the French, or is just me? I think the contract referred to is a 'standard departmental contract' (in the French sense, obviously) but I am confused by the construction of this whole paragraph and what the 'elle' refers to in the sentence:
'Elle doit donc figurer dans chaque contrat type departemental'. See right at the end of the context provided. Thanks for any help with turning this round!

Personally, I prefer this word order, keeping "standard contract" together, but I guess it's only a matter of personal preference.
As an aside, I personally avoid translating "département" wherever I can, since I regard this uniquely French institution as being in some ways like a proper name — and also to avoid ambiguity with "faux amis" (department, commune, ...). I prefer to keep such words untranslated and if possible indicated as such by italics, to make it crystal clear that we are referring to the FR administrative units and not the "plain language" meanings of such words.
I see the confusion, with all those preceding feminine nouns!
Personally, I think the "elle" refers back to "la conversion", which is after all the main subject of the preceding sentence — and this seems to me to make the greatest sense. |
