French to English translations [PRO]
Agriculture | | French term or phrase: les travaux à façon | This appears in a document on diversification in agriculture.
From what I understand, the term refers to work carried out for other people using raw materials that are not your own.
Any suggestions as to the correct term for this in English?
I have considered something like "work under contract" but I'm not sure if this is specific enough. The precise context is:
"Cette forme de diversification comprend des filières classiques, telles que les travaux à façon, l’élaboration-transformation de produits agricoles, la vente directe, le tourisme à la ferme,..."

I think probably the best solution here would be "contract processing": "custom" to me describes the nature of the service (bespoke), whereas "contract" describes the nature of the agreement between the parties, which I think is what is pertinent here? "Processing" seems less ambiguous here than production, which might suggest growing (eg.) a crop under contract.
