drought escape
Explanation:

My suggestion : esquive = drought escape

Method :

1-Google search with key words esquive+agricole+english (without inverted commas).

2-Google search with “drought+escape”+definition (with inverted commas for first two words).

“Phenology affects drought resistance both in terms of yield component structure (drought effects on number of panicles, grains per panicle, etc.) and also drought escape (timing of the drought in relation to most sensitive growth stages). “

evasion

Explanation:
Evasion is a farming technique of the corn grain consisting in shifting the cycle of corn to obtain a flowering before the large peaks of heat. The objective is to advance the moment when the plant has more need for water so that it intervenes when the water resource is not yet limited (at the end of May or at the beginning of June).

Sorry, not advising you to work round the problem, but to use the word "work-(a)round" as a translation!

Microsoft offers a "work-round" for making my printer/scanner work under Vista since the "scan" button is no longer recognised. A simply matter of using "Paint" or some other program and doing the scanning from there instead of from the printer console.

OK, OK, OK .... It's not Microsoft but HP, and the word they actually use is "workaround" ...

Fencers know all about esquives. Ducking is one kind, known as faire le petit bonhomme in French.

esquive n.f. (1922).
[Larousse Lexis]

Hence, for those who hadn't grasped my point - against the rules, and never advisable in any case, in fencing -, my proposal.

Since Cetacea doesn't like the defensive image, how about something more aggressive: avoid the risk of losing your crop to drought: box clever and plant early.

disagree  Cetacea: And what does this have to do with a certain method of agriculture?!//Obviously meant to be very learned and very funny, but unfortunately totally useless.

-> As much as "esquive", in the absolute. Alternatively you could say "duck the issue", but duck and maize go too well together, esp. in the SW./Glad you appreciate it à sa juste valeur.
