In my experience this is known as Taro in the English-speaking world, but my experience doesn't necessarily cover all parts of the world where it's grown ! (Where I live (Reunion) it's called "songe" and we also eat the leafy part, not just the tuber part).

FYI, I find Google images to be indispensable for African stuff. They so often call things by different names, and have different but commonly used appelations, that comparing pictures can be super handy. Also, pictures sometimes have the source language built into the image and a translation nearby, or vice versa, which will not show up through other standard searches. I'm particularly thinking of various types of construction materials that occupied loads of time some time ago... but also for various agricultural inputs and outputs
