Dossier argumentaire pour la transformation d’une *industrie en logement* pour artistes.

Sorry, no further context. It's probably a qebecoisme. The author is an urban planner. Any ideas?

converting an industrial building into residential accommodation
Explanation:
Surely it's just the way you're parsing it?

I'd have assumed that 'une industrie' meant 'an industrial building' (or possibly 'a factory), and that 'logement' means some kind of residential accommodation (though maybe in FR-CA, it could also simply mean 'accommodation' in the sense of 'studio space', i.e. not dwellings).

agree  John Detre: Definitely. Probably means converting a warehouse or other industrial building into artists' lofts.

  -> Thanks, John! That's very much what I had in mind

agree  Travelin Ann: into artist lofts - sometimes means both living space and creative space

  -> Thanks, Ann! Quite!

agree  Charles Hawtrey: Got some down the street from here - tho' they finished up as offices/studios rather than living + creative space because planners had no category to describe what developer proposed. Victory for bureaucracy over common sense!

factories into artists' premises

Explanation:
Or, artists' accommodation.
In Andy's case the factory became the Factory!

Asker: I think I'll go more generic (based on the slim context), but you've definately got the gist of it. Thanks!

From which I take it the word can apply to a factory, also referred to, similarly, as manufacture. I think this usage would be rare in metropolitan French, however; it may be a Quebecism.
