If it IS smart glass, I fail to see the point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression this glass is placed over oak panelling. So why put glass over it? Maybe the oak panelling is invaluable and they don't want grubby fingers all over it. OK. But then why would they want to show off their invaluable oak panelling one minute and conceal it at the flick of a switch the next?

Smart glass is ideal in a place like a bathroom, for instance, where you might want to enjoy all the light you can get and admire the great outdoors through clear glass but benefit from the intimacy of opaque glass at other times.

Maybe it's just a wealth statement: "Look, I can afford to throw money away by installing this expensive glass for no apparent reason".
