far away came mean in time or space or both

It seems to me that the author's choice to not evoke time specifically is deliberate. "So long ago" could have been expressed easily in French. This formulation is more mysterious, even if the reality presented is of time, this expressed distance in time like a foreign country. I believe the author has done this purposely.

so close and yet so far

Explanation:
Just a guess without seeing the phot, imagining that the subject of the photo is "loin" in time, space or culture, and that the "aujourd´hui" refers to the now of the viewer. Or so close and still so far...

neutral  Tony M: Sorry, Dominique, but I'm afraid "so far past up to now" really doesn't sound a bit natural in EN.

Difficult one - this is my attempt to capture the idea that this building survives into the present day from long ago.

so long ago... and right now

Explanation:
In order to come up with something suitably creative, it really would be necessary to have a wider view of the artist's work, and this image in particular.

In that case, perhaps "It's made it this far..." might be more apt

Or how about: "Down the years..."?

You could also try something else like

The past in your hands/ right in front of you

giving the idea the two times coincinding via the act of looking at the photo
