French term or phrase: pochoir
I am aware that 'pochoir' usually means 'stencil' or 'patten', depending on the context, but was wondering what it meant in my text, an insurance document, where it is referring to a kind of damage which would be excluded...

LES DOMMAGES D’ORDRE ESTHETIQUE TELS QUE RAYURES, EGRATIGNURES, EBRECHURES, ECAILLAGES, GRAFFITIS, TAGS, ***POCHOIRS*** ET INSCRIPTIONS DE TOUTES NATURES, LES AFFICHAGES, LES SALISSURES, SUR LES BIEN ASSURES

Actually, I am scratching my head also about 'tags' in this context too - but that will have to be for another question!

... any ideas, folks...? and, in the meantime, beware of 'pochoirs', they are not covered! :)

Both answers fine of course, but I have to do the honest thing and give the points to the first answer... albeit 4 minutes earlier than the second. Thanks to all contributors... and it just goes to show what you can't see when you are tired.... I have seen loads of this stuff around!

(graffiti) stenciling

Explanation:
In this context it does indeed refer to stenciling, as a form of graffiti, as can be seen here:

http://fragmentdetags.wordpress.com/2011/06/03/tags-et-pocho...

and here:

http://archeologue.over-blog.com/categorie-10807437.html

If you are concerned about disambiguating the term, then I would use 'graffiti stenciling' as the translation, otherwise just use 'stenciling' and rely on the context to make this clear.

'Tags' is an Anglicism and refers to the highly stylized signatures that graffiti artists use to identify their work. See examples here:

http://www.lavi2rue.com/graffitis.php
