French term or phrase: rideaux en cretonne à personnages
Here is the context:

Thank you.

figured cretonne curtains
Explanation:
Figured cretonne is cretonne decorated with any kind of design, be it flowers, leaves, figures, scenes... It does not necessarily mean "figures" as such.

See for instance:

“a piece of attractive figured cretonne with birds, foliage or flowers”

Of course in your text it probably does mean "figures" because of the term "personnages" but the correct description would be "figured" in any case.

Cretonne-Vorhänge

Explanation:

Really sorry, what I wanted to say is that the expression Cretonne seems to remain as it is, but one could translate it as heavy cotton curtain maybe. "a personnages" means that it is adorned with figural motives which make the observer dream and think about hunting scenes. One could render it as "heavy, printed cotton curtains bustling with small figures"

Example sentence(s):
  • Ce travail consiste à découper dans des tissus de cretonne imprimée les motifs les plus variés : branches fleuries, oiseaux, feuillages, fleurettes, voire des personnages ;

figure-patterned cretonne curtains

I think we use chintz much more often than cretonne in English, they are similar except that the former is glazed with cretonne being coarser. Anyway, the type printed with figures is usually known as Toile de Joay
