I appreciate the differences with these words. The problem I find though is that derealise does not seem to appear in many English texts. It seems to be quite a French word/idea and may not be well known in UK. But on the other hand it may not be that difficult to figure out its meaning target readers who have an interest in the field.

My post in the reference section proposes sources which indicate that 'derealization' might indeed work well. I agree that it is slightly different from 'deconstruct'. The fram described by the Asker is in a halfway-house situation, not toally deconstructed, which might make the solution lie closer to the more literal 'derealized'. Further, it may be argued that the original opted for 'déréalisé" and not 'déconstruit'.

I agree, IMO there is no problem here with the literal translation. i.e. derealized.

en. a feeling that one's surroundings are not real.

In this context the images loses their "realness" in the sense of concrete representation (i.e. what defines them as singular entities) which introduces this notion of extrapolation (i.e.meaning is assumed) . To me deconstruction is something different,more about the "destruction" of an image or text to "read" it. Here we are talking more about blurring between categories rather than breaking down.

I was just wondering if the author is not playing around with the word 'déréalisation' which exists in English too. Read on...!

Although this is a psycological state, it might be the origin of the inspiration for the author. Ties in with Hal d'Arpini's "deconstruct".
