French term or phrase: moteriou

significant (A) mark due to "moteriou" (light fabric) which has attached to the work producing highlights and adhesions.

This was in a handwritten comment on a report about the state of a work of art that had deteriorated in storage. The handwriting is bad and the writer is capable of misspelling words. Nevertheless if anyone knows of a fabric that sounds vaguely like moteriou and that might possibly have an English translation I would appreciate it.

The art was wrapped in glassine paper, a special material for preserving art.
