Tech/Engineering - Automotive / Cars & Trucks / Automotive paint coating
French term or phrase: (revêtements de peinture sur pièces dites) de "robe" ou de "carrosserie"
Help with either term would be great, otherwise just the first one.
Here's the context (an automobile company's standard for vehicle paint coatings):

Could it be to do with touch-up coats or lacquer topcoats? I found the following article...
The rule does not apply to coatings supplied in non-refillable aerosol containers,
lacquer topcoats or their components, or touch-up coatings.

Just a comment to add to the answer above.

"Robe" is basically a synonym for "carrosserie".

However, if you think in your context it might have a distinctive meaning, I can't help wondering if "carrosserie" refers to actual "body" parts (bonnets, boots, wings, door panels, etc.), be they metal or not (the front wings of many Renaults are plastic) while "robe" refers to the plastics bottom panels, bumpers, front and rear skirts, or overpanels at the bottoms of doors, etc.

When your text says "pièces mécaniques", do you really think they are referring to mechanical (as opposed to "body") parts? Maybe it's just because it's late/early, but I'm having trouble thinking of any mechanical parts that are painted .... Door handles, maybe? Radiator fan blades ? ... Mechanical, yes, but not "mechanical mechanical", if you get my drift ... Mind you, my last car was twenty years old, and although it seems to me everything under the bonnet was bare metal, things have undoubtedly changed a lot since then. For my new car, I cannot say: the engine is hidden by a plastic cover attempting to look like a metal engine!

Asker: Thanks for your information!Seems they have a similar meaning then... I'll bear in mind what you say about "mechanical parts", but it seems quite specific in the original text.
