In an earlier question, I used 'needs' for apport, now not quite as sure. This is another heading for a diagnostics program.

I thought first of effect, contribution, but reaction sounds more physics-like.

Notes to answerer

Asker: Thanks!! It seems the more questions I ask, the more I need to ask!! Could be, reaction of the fuel gauge to the car's movement. Another one to mull over.
