French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Automotive / Cars & Trucks
French term or phrase: ligne de conduite
Vehicle checks (cont.). No helpful context.

"Vérification des flexibles et lignes de conduites du système de freinage (usure, craquèlement, coupure, fuite)".

Presumably the "s" at the end of "conduite" is a mistake...

English translation:pipes
Explanation:
Automotive braking systems work by forcing a fluid (brake fluid) down a series of tubes. The flexible sections are called brake hoses and the metal fixed sections referred to here are pipes.
I'd translate the whole lot as "checking brake pipes and hoses".

Asker: thanks, yes, came to the same conclusion: obviously "conduite" on its own would have spared us the fun of an over-complicated phrase, made all the more fun because "conduite" in a driving context also means "drive", "driving", "motive" etc.

Asker: ach! that link of yours wouldn't go where intended... so I don't know what you found... but I looked up "ligne de conduite" in GDT... did you maybe find "path of contact"... I suspect this is exclusively about gear wheels... think my phrase just means "pipes"!
