French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Automotive / Cars & Trucks
French term or phrase: core
Context: industry software for motor maintenance

I'm wondering if "core" is being used in the sense of "core product" below:

Pour le rent data, le formateur nous a dit de prendre le rapport des factures et des bons de réparations payées et de soustraire les montants batterie sn, dot (pneus) et la surtaxe que l’on retrouve sur le rapport quotidien des ventes, afin d’obtenir le montant des pièces installées au garage.
Sur le rapport de factures et des bons de réparation payées, on y retrouve tous les *cores* vendus et échangés. À notre avis le montant des *cores* devrait être également soustrait du rapport parce que ce n’est pas des pièces installées.

English translation:battery core
Explanation:
I believe the are referring to the inner part of the car battery, called the core. Basically, the part that contains the heart of the battery that either can or cannot be recycled, remounted, etc. The "*cores* vendus et échangés" may simply refer to batteries sold or exchanged or may specifically refer to used/dead batteries that are sold and/or exchanged with other dealers for the purpose of rebuilding/reusing/recycling them. A bit vague, but I would stick with just "core" in the English version - I'd assume they know what it means!

Thanks a lot, your reference was great. It seems that it's not necessarily the battery core, but the "core" part (as in the most essential part) of many automotive parts.

Example sentence(s):
  • You will be charged a "core" fee when you purchase a new battery, if you bring in your old battery after or when purchasing your new battery you will not get charged this fee.
