French to English translations [PRO] Science - Botany / fruit production | | French term or phrase: "intermédiaire à 1/2 érigé" | Hi everyone,
The marketing brochure is discussing a new range of peaches and nectarines.
Then it compares the four new fruits in a table.
Fruit 1 Fruit 2
vigueur forte forte
port intérmediaire intérmediaire à 1/2 érigé
Any help would be much appreciated as always.

"Semi-erect" can probably be said of trees getting on in years that have lost much of their virility.

OK, so I'm going to look like a poor loser, but in the interests of what I like to think of as the usefulness of this resource for translators, I'd like it to go on record that :
a) "érigé/upward", as listed in the source quoted, refers to Petiole: attitude of hairs; (further, it would appear that the hairs (aka stipules) on petioles are also said to be "erect", which makes sense, since "upwards" will only be up if the stipules are on one side only of the petiole and that petiole is horizontal ... ; you DO get "semi upwardS", but that is proposed for Leaf blade: attitude in relation to shoot, and the French is "demi dressé" [INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR THE PROTECTION OF NEW VARIETIES OF PLANTS www.upov.int/en/publications/tg-rom/tg163/tg_163_3.pdf )] and
b. i) "(semi upward) + tree" gets 10 ghits, none of which are related to trees' growth habits;
b.ii) "(semi upwardS) + tree" gets 9 ghits, 4 of which concern plants, but not trees' growth habits;
b.iii) "semi erect= + tree" gets 42,500 ghits, many of which are related to trees' growth habits;
c) a further option, spotted in an OECD dictionary (books.google.com/books?isbn=9264270329... ) which proposes "upright" for "port érigé" would be "semi upright :
"(Semi upright) + tree" gets 3,100 ghits
