French to English translations [PRO] Science - Botany / Natural history museum collection | | French term or phrase: part | In a list describing contents of a museum collection. The context below leads me to presume that "part" is the term for "spécimen" in the botanical world. But does the English language distinguish between the two or does "specimen" cover both plants and animals?
Botanique: 50 000 ***parts***
Paléontologie: xxxxxx échantillons
Minéralogie : xxxx échantillons
Zoologie : xxxxx spécimens
Sciences humaines : xxxx échantillons
Bibliothèque : 60 000 ouvrages
A previous asker settled for "specimen" (http://www.proz.com/kudoz/french_to_english/botany/934630-pa... but I'd still like to run this by the specialists out there. |

| | specimen | Explanation: seems fine to me -
This valuable Hans Sloane 17th-century cocoa specimen is one of the Museum's 3 million plant specimens moving to the new Darwin Centre. Before moving in, each specimen must spend a week in giant Maersk freezers to ensure they are all pest-free.
