French term or phrase: charmes taillés

In a brochure describing the architectural features of various houses: véritable havre de paix au coeur de la capitale, composé d'une maison avant, d'un jardin agrémenté de vieux arbres fruitiers, de buis, de charmes taillés et d'une maison arrière.

Can anyone shed any light on "de charmes taillées". Are these trees which have been pruned to create a charming effect!?!

English translation:manicured (cut) hornbeam trees (hornbeams)

Explanation:
if you look up "charme" in French you will find it is of the genus "Carpinus". Then if you look up "Carpinus" in English, you will come to different sorts of hornbeam.
As to "taillé" it means cut, shaped... I offer manicured because it is a rare chance to use the expression
