French term or phrase:substrat fleurissement
There are many terms that could be used, including potting, floral, flower, or planting substrate. Is there a specific translation of this term that is used in the trade? Elsewhere the term 'terreau fleurisssement' has been translated as 'potting soil' so perhaps they would term this 'potting substrate'.

Explanation: As a gardener, I would just call this potting compost - of course there a relots of different types, peat-based, loam-based, special mixes for all sorts of plants, but the generic term in the UK is compost. Don't know whether that's the same for the US, I'm afraid.

I am going with this because of the way in which the customer used terms signifying growth medium elsewhere in the text. If they had not done so, I would have chosen to use 'growth medium for flowers'. In fact, the customer uses the term substrate throughout, sometimes referring to 'growing medium' and sometimes to 'potting soil'. I think they themselves were inconsistent. @rkillings - this is an interesting solution. If I had seen it before delivering the file, I would have included it as an alternative. The main reason I believe the client uses 'fleurissement' as 'potting' is because they referred to 'terreau fleurissement' as 'potting soil'. But I think 'flowering substrate' may be a specific term that all of us overlooked.

Substrate can be soil, SLS ("soil-like substrate") and presumably other stuff that is not soil-like and not remotely "compost".

IMO (and gardening experience) it's a synonym for terreau.

Explanation: I am far from being an expert in this field (in fact, most of my plants usually wither and die!), but I'd have thought this was the term that applies at the final 'planting out' stage.
I've also heard of 'potting-on', but I suspect that is an earlier, intermediate stage...

- and if it's for plentiful flowers in troughs and other containers, that's how I'd probably phrase it (as opposed to a growing medium for leafy vegetables, strawberries, cactus, etc.)

When plants are grown in containers, (rather than the soil), a fundamental requirement for healthy growth is a growing medium or substrate that supports a healthy root system.
