French term or phrase: professionnalisme des Armees
A person is describing his business career. He says: "mon premier employeur fut le ministere de la Defense que j'ai integre au moment de la professionnalisation des Armees en tant que juriste"
Could this mean "at the time conscription was abolished"? It seems this person never did basic training etc. (I am supposing that compulsory military training has been abolished in France?)

disagree  Kim Metzger: It wasn't abolished, it was suspended. France has only one army, but its armed forces also include a navy and an air force.

professionalisation of the armed forces

Explanation:
Assuming you're looking for "professionnalisation des Armees" rather than "professionnalisme des Armees" I'd recommend professionalisation of the armed forces or conversion of the armed forces to a professional military.

France suspended peacetime military conscription in 1996, while those born before 1979 had to complete their service (see related BBC News article); since the Algerian War of Independence (1954-62), conscripts had not been deployed abroad or in war zones, except those volunteering for such deployments.

la professionnalisation des armées et son corollaire : la suspension de la conscription dans le cadre du Service National.

professionalisation of the armed forces and its corollary, ending conscription within the context of National Service.

With the ending of conscription and the professionalisation of the armed forces in several countries, at a time when armies in many member States are seeing action in the same theatres of operations, the Assembly resolutely promotes the shared principles to be used to guide army action and govern the conditions under which they discharge their duties.
