disagree  Hugo: "consultant" does not convey the precise idea of "accompagnatrice"...a consultant is not necessarily an "accompagnateur" and viceversa, a translation may not be good just because it is not literal, the meaning can also be distorted and imprecise...
1 hr
-> Afraid that I disagree, as job titles need to be translated according to what one would call the same job in the target language, rather than according to word for word equivalence. An in-house consultant could well do the same job as an "accompagnateur"

Explanation:
Let 'em have the musical metaphor -- it's a nice one.

And it's already known in English, esp. for sign language accompanist.

Hi Julie,

With all due respect to you and everybody, I do not see the logic in your comment.

You say "escort has a sexual connotation", however I did not propose "escort", but "language escort" and the latter does not have any sexual connotation, it is rather a term that is used in the language industry, I provide references below. Because one word has a connotation does not mean that any combination with other words will have the same connotation, and one could find plenty of examples of this! Cheers!

Notes to answerer
Asker: yes for me escort has a sexual connotation so not the best word to use. I do not know if "interpreter" would be ok here. Its services I offer to accompany people and speak english to them and explain them the place, its history and so on but I'm not a real interpreter. That's why I was looking for advice.

neutral  Alison Curran: "Escort"often has sexual connotations, so this probably needs to be used with great care!
1 hr
-> I beg to differ, "escort interpreter" has no sexual connotation whatsoever, it is of standard use in the language industry!

neutral  Sheila Wilson: if the context is the language industry,OK, but I agree with Alison that "Joe Bloggs" may read something else into it // Sorry, it would have been clearer to say "if the reader is in the language industry"
1 hr
-> well, the context is the language industry...

neutral  Anne-Marie Grant: I would agree with escort interpreter if that is the service being provided - perhaps more context would help
3 hrs
-> I guess there is a lot of neutrality out there today :-))

neutral  B D Finch: Would an "escort" help with logistics and organisation of international events?
3 hrs
-> yes, because by definition of "international" those tasks involve the use of foreign languages...but hey, we are reaching an historic record for "neutrals" ever in Proz :))))

neutral  philgoddard: I'm just posting this to boost the numbers and because gray is my favorite color :)
4 hrs
-> I really appreciate your contribution! :)) this is team effort and we are all getting there :)) this confirms what I heard the other day: there are many shades of grey :))
