French to English translations [PRO]
Business/Commerce (general)
French term or phrase: droit d'images
Unfortunately, the context for this is not optimal. This comes from a French document that had earlier been translated into English with later French language updates inserted in among the earlier English translation. Fundamentally, a list of companies with explanations of the business activities in which they are engaged. One activity for this one company is given as "Consultant et droit d'images in partnership with companies in the agricultural and food industries." Any ideas?

Jim Duck
image rights adviser
Explanation:
I'm confident that droit d'images = image rights.

The guessing part is how to turn that into an activity. Adviser seems suitably non-specific, and different from consultant.

I like Hervé\'s idea (thanks, Hervé). In that case I\'d suggest \"image rights consultant\", someone whose job it is to advise the company about how they can best profit from their image rights, image rights to their brands, or something like that. The client company wouldn\'t necessarily cede any aspect of their rights, they may just pay a consultancy fee.

Thanks to all. The text did contain a number of misspellings in both the French and English sections. So, I, too, wondered about "en" versus "et." Mostly, though, I was confused by what seemed to be an unusual departure from the main activities of the company in question (directly food/catering related). Cheers, Jim

(consultant) with residual rights to (brand) images

Explanation:
The only clue here for me is 'consultant'. What type of consultancy is involved that would give them the 'right to images'. Does 'image' refer to pictures, photographs, videos or (and this is a leap into the dark!) 'images (de marques)= brand images'? If you want to explore a fanciful guess then I would think in terms of a marketing consultancy that had retained certain aspects of the intellectual property rights to brand images in the food business?

professional advice and photo rights

Explanation:
I would guess that the document has been produced in collaboration with the various companies involved, and that "professional advice and photo rights" means that the companies provided their own information which has then been adapted to fit the style of the document.
