French to English translations [PRO]
Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs / extrait de naissance
French term or phrase: vers
This is in a Côte d'Ivoire birth certificate. For the birth date it says:

Le VERS mil neuf cent VING SEPT

After wracking my brain for a while trying to figure this out, I suddenly realized it very obviously meant "around 1927." However, I just wanted to double check that I am not missing some other meaning, as this is a legal document and if I translated the birth date as "around 1927" and that's wrong, it would be a grave error indeed.

Thanks!

c.

Explanation:
The usual quasi-English term in this context is c. (= circa), as in c. 1927, not 'around', 'about', 'approx.' or whatever.

agree  Stephen Fennell: I assume the certificate has the word "Le" preprinted followed by dots for an official to write in the year. That wd explain the presence of the "Le", which normally of course would not be there before a "vers".
