French term or phrase: triés sur le carreau
A description of one of the events at a cultural arts festival:

hand-picked
Explanation:
Last I knew, "hand-picked" was the standard expression for the meaning of 'carefully selected', at least in U.S. English, though top-of-the-line might also do in this context.

Both expressions would work, but I think this fits best with the register used. Thanks to everyone. Karen

If you Google \"sur le carreau\" a lot of hits will give you \"sur le volet\" in the sample sentence fragments.
