French to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Cinema, Film, TV, Drama / Contract
French term or phrase:permanence d’activité et de vie
This appears in an agreement for one party to film on premises belonging to the other party, over a period of days. The term also appears as "permanence de vie".
I have looked at the various ways "permanence" has been translated here on Proz but nothing seems to correspond to this. If I were writing in English, I think I would say "maintain a constant presence", as I think this is what it means, although that doesn't look great. Any suggestions?

A ce titre, le Producteur pourra être amené à effectuer sur les lieux les opérations ci-dessous mentionnées à titre indicatif (les « Opérations ») :
(i) Tournage en intérieur et/ou en extérieur ;
(ii) Prises de clichés photographiques en intérieur et/ou en extérieur ;
(iii) Réalisation d’enregistrements sonores en intérieur et/ou en extérieur ;

I believe that "une permanence should be understood here in the following sense:
"(Déb. xxe). Par métonymie. Local où fonctionne ce service. | Permanence d'un commissariat de police. | Adressez-vous à la permanence, première porte à gauche. | Permanence du parti socialiste. — Permanence électorale, permanence d'un candidat : local où un candidat aux élections se tient toujours prêt à recevoir ou à faire recevoir ses électeurs." This seems the best solution in this context. Thanks!

ongoing presence and activity
Explanation: maintained at the site. Keep it general (and don't assume anyone is going to 'live' there, in any meaning other than spending an inordinate amount of time!).

to set up a production base / unit production base
Explanation: During the filming period a film crew base themselves in a unit base or a production unit base where all production paperwork is dealt with and where production team, crew (and cast if present) can deal with other issues, production admin or relax and eat. This becomes the permanent base throughout the entire filming period in that location.
My answer comes from personal experience of working on film sets. These are terms used by both film crew members and those on the higher echelons of production teams such as within the legal circles and amongst executive producers.
"MODEL CONTRACT FOR CINEMATOGRAPHERS...
...
A. Travel to base -and transport from base to location.
- Agreement as to compensation for travelling time to production location or base. Producer has responsibility for transport, etc.
When working outside the base or studio zone, transportation time from the unit base to a location and from such location back to the unit base should be paid as part of the workday and subject to all premiums, penalties, and turnaround and overtime payments
B. ... " http://www.imago.org/pdfs/230a9a40afb95a7af79e6fc9e1f68942.p... are terms used by both film crew members and those at the higher level of production executives.

You could add the word permanent to production unit base.
"setting up of a permanent production (unit) base for the duration/required period..."

"...So, what is a unit base? A unit base is simply an off street car park close to film locations, with no height or width restriction, that can facilitate the many vehicles associated with a location shoot, like Winnebago's, caterers, dining buses, make up and wardrobe trucks, camera and lighting vehicles and of course plenty of crew cars! In other words, all essential facility vehicles required by production to support a location shoot. Location Managers want a unit base as close to their film locations (or sets) as possible ...... In fact without unit bases location shoots could not be achieved." http://www.unitbase.co.uk/9.1.php?pageID=91
Example sentence(s):
""Checking in - Once at the unit base, check-in with the 2nd AD or 3rd AD to let them know you have arrived"
" Leavesden – a permanent UK film production base for the company, as well as a Harry Potter museum. As part of the redevelopment, ..."
