Yeah, nowadays montage just refers to the process of editing in general (at least in French post prod context that I know fairly well) and not any type of particular process (e.g. Eisenstein theory of montage). i.e. faire le montage.

In the context of a script, I think the indication 'montage image' indicates that the shot that comes into focus (a transition) has to be done by the editor in post production and not by the cameraman on the film shoot.

So maybe an indication to this effect would be more appropriate as a translation than a literal translation of the phrase.

But I agree more context would help.

Can't agree, I'm afarid here; 'mo,tage' is a particualr description of a certian type of sequence, but here, this seems to be referring to the actual editing process; we're hampered of course by lack of context, but a 'montage sequence' doesn't seem to me particularly consistent with a shot that comes into focus.

Here I think he means the transition (blurry to in focus) is done in post production by the film editor and is not the result of an action by the cameraman on the actual film shoot.
