French term or phrase: Assistant tournages
In the context of a CV for someone who has worked on feature films and short films, can anyone confirm for me whether or not 'Assistant tournages" corresponds to "Production assistant"?

Thanks in advance for your help.

English translation:Production assistant
Explanation:
Yes, unless there is any other context to refute this, it would certainly be the most usual translation of this role — you may be able to glean cliues from the order of this person's experience: how far along their career path were they at this stage?

assistant director

Explanation:
Hi,

A production assistant in French is assistant producteur/assistant de production/assistant aux producteurs. By "Assistant tournages", do you mean Assistant réalisateur which is an assistant director in English? This article may help, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filmmaking#Production

agree  cc in nyc: http://www.onf-nfb.gc.ca/fra/collection/film/?id=55474 has "Assistant tournage"; the webpage toggles to http://www.onf-nfb.gc.ca/eng/collection/film/?id=57632 which has "Assistant director"

neutral  Tony M: I think this may be promoting the person too much! And I think the ref. found by CC is an exception (on a small shoot, it is conceivable that the PA acts as an AD)

first (or second) assistant cameraman

Explanation:
I agree that assistant director may sound too "big" for an "assistant de tournage". I would suggest first or second cameraman (as the case may be because they are quite different as well, see below).

disagree  Tony M: No, this kind of asisstant is general, not specifically camera dept.
