French term or phrase: hors norme
Il est l’un des acteurs les plus charismatiques de sa génération et sa personnalité hors du commun allait naturellement l’amener à des rencontres hors norme

This article is for the American press. I know nothing about Gerard Butler so I need an epithet for his personality which will fit into this context. Please only answer if you are familiar with him, as I am not short of possible translations for "hors norme". It has to be something that will ring a bell with a celebrity-crazed readership. If the same adjective can be used for both occurrences, so much the better.

Explanation:
I think this means more than extraordinary, rather a violation of commonsense, average norms for living one's life. I have to admit I am not familiar with this actor, but the below article seems to suggest as much, a student of law who kicks over the traces himself.
