French to English translations [PRO] Cinema, Film, TV, Drama / Gerald Butler
French term or phrase:hors norme
Il est l’un des acteurs les plus charismatiques de sa génération et sa personnalité hors du commun allait naturellement l’amener à des rencontres hors norme
This article is for the American press. I know nothing about Gerard Butler so I need an epithet for his personality which will fit into this context. Please only answer if you are familiar with him, as I am not short of possible translations for "hors norme". It has to be something that will ring a bell with a celebrity-crazed readership. If the same adjective can be used for both occurrences, so much the better.
Thank you for your agree - I see the term used more and more in situations completely off the edge, not just "close" to it - although I suppose it depends on ones personal opinion of the issue.
Je n'en doute pas un instant! Primo, le côté cérébral est essentiel; secundo, il est trop jeune pour moi!!! (Clooney ferait très bien l'affaire sinon, même mieux!)
When you Google Image him, the averagely healthy constituted girlie can no doubt appreciate certain physical characteristics which no doubt hlep keep him in work!
I see no reason tod eviate from any of the ordinary possibilities : extraordinary, exceptional etc. You might even like "extraordinary personality.... encounters which are out of the ordinary".
Your text only has one occurrence of 'hors norme', and another of 'hors de commun' — is it to that you are referring?
I don't really think there's anything specifically Butler about the 'hors normes', since in fact it is referring not to him directly, but to the 'rencontres' he has made. I think it would be most hlepful if you told us what possible transaltions of 'hors norme' you already have, so we can perhaps help you select the right one for use here.
