Tech/Engineering - Computers: Software
French term or phrase: Mot de Vie API
This comes from a user manual for a gas mixing machine. API stands for Application Program Interface. There's no other context: it comes under the heading 'analog information' and is in a list of parts including 'measurement sensors'. Any ideas?
Thank you!

API state data word

Explanation:
Presumably "mot" in the sense of a word of digital data, given the (limited) context. As it is analog data, and "mot de vie" usually means something like "the key to life", it's presumably an analog value that can indicate whether the process is working properly.

Sign-of-life word

Explanation:
I wish I'd seen this question 5 years ago! What this is is a data word to tell a controller that a process is active (the word is continually incremented as long as the motor is running/fluid is flowing/driver is awake or whatever). If the control system fails to receive the incremented word it assumes the process is dead and executes the appropriate action (brings in a standby pump/throws a bucket of water over the driver...).
You might also wish to note that API here is not English but French and stands for Automate Programmable Industriel - what we would call a PLC in English.
